Merry Christmas!

It is hard to believe that there are only two weeks left of school - where has this year gone?


The children have worked very hard this term and are looking forward to starting our Christmas unit.


A few dates to remember...


- School Christmas concert - Tuesday, 21st November at 6:30pm. Please note that children are to meet their teachers in their classrooms at 6pm wearing a Christmas t-shirt.


-Year 6 Graduation - Wednesday, 29th November at 7pm.


- Last day of school for 2017 - Friday, 1st December. School finishes at 11.30am.

Hello from 2Green - Weeks 5 and 6


Literacy:
  • Our fortnightly comprehension strategy is 'Inferencing'. Children could practise this strategy at home while they are reading their home readers!
  • Children are working hard on the 'Persuasive Writing Process'.
  • We continue working hard on our handwriting (entries and exits) and pencil grips. It is great to see the student's hard work paying off.
  • Home readers are being sent home and the students may find them more challenging. Please encourage your children to read each night. Please help them to strengthen their comprehension of the text by asking them some of the questions in their reading folder.


Numeracy:
  • Number patterns…counting forwards and backwards in 1's, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s up to 1000 (starting at any number) and 3's up to 30 
  • Rainbow facts and doubles
  • Numbers written in words and numerals
  • Time - o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to
  • Money
  • Collecting and graphing data
  • Arrays and groups
  • 'Split' strategy eg. 13+24= (10+20) + (3+4) = 37   In class children circle and link 'tens' and 'ones' rather than bracket tens and ones.
  • Directional language (left, right, etc.)
  • Word Problems
  • Fractions - whole, 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8
  • Transformations - 1/4 and 1/2 turns

Religion
  • Value of the week: 
  • Students are learning to analyse some teachings and actions of Jesus depicted in the New Testament
  • Pose questions about the life and time of Jesus
  • St. Vincent de Paul
Homework:  
  • Homework began again in week 2.  Each week students are asked to research part of their project making the compilation less demanding in weeks 6 and 7. 
  • It is an expectation that children hand their homework in on a Monday and that homework is completed in PENCIL.

  • Our fortnightly comprehension strategies are the features of retell. Children could practise these strategies at home while they are reading their home readers!
  • Children are working hard on the 'Narrative Writing Process' and are producing some fantastic work. Most children have published their chosen drafts and are busy working on the front and back covers of their stories.
  • We continue working hard on our handwriting and pencil grips. It is great to see the student's hard work paying off.
  • Children have recently been tested on their reading and their results have been very pleasing. Home readers are being sent home and the students may find them more challenging. Please encourage your children to read each night. Please help them to strengthen their comprehension of the text by asking them some of the questions in their reading folder.
